Budget for 2021/2022

The Town Council met last week to receive a budget presentation by Officers and the Lead Member for Finance including details for the next financial year. It was unanimously agreed to set a precept of £179,767, which was in line with the Town Councils long held policy of maintaining levels in line with inflation. The precept set will be the lowest total of any Town in Amber Valley and is also lower than some Villages in the area.

Councillor Mary Kerry Lead Member of Finance and Personnel noted that ‘the Town Council continues to operate with a smaller budget than all neighbouring Towns and maintain its commitment to not burden local residents with above inflation increases in spite of continued cost pressures. Positively the budget includes provision for new community projects, which we hope to be able to launch after the pandemic eases.’ Further details of the precept and budget can be found on the councils website.

This morning at 9:00am, Town Mayor, Councillor David Taylor, led a poignant commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of VE Day at Alfreton House.

In honour of Victory in Europe Day, Councillor Taylor read the official proclamation before raising the VE Day flag, paying tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who served during the Second World War.

The short ceremony served as a moment of reflection for the town, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe and reminding residents of the importance of peace, unity, and remembrance.
